“Very funny. I’m gonna finish packing my boxes,” he went back into his office.

  3

Chance looked at Evan, who was sitting in the passenger seat. “So, that’s our town, as small as it is,” he sighed. “There are some other things that you will see, but what do you think of it so far?”

Evan leaned back in the seat of the SUV. “Perfect,” he said.

  “Are you sure?”

“Just what I’ve been looking for. I still have to find an office I can use. I’d rather not have a home office,” Evan sighed.

“There is one for sale on Bedford Place,” Chance said. “I could show it to you and if you’re interested in it, call Janet. She’d also know if there were others available.”

  “Janet?” Evan asked.

“She’s the local realtor,” he said.

“Oh, that would be fine, if it’s not too much trouble,” Evan sighed.

“Nope, not at all,” he bit his lip nervously and continued to drive down the road in silence.

Evan kept looking at Chance and then when Chance noticed, he’d stare out the window. What am I doing? He doesn’t want me as much as I want him, Evan thought to himself.

Chance looked out of the corner of his eye and sighed as he took a right hand turn down a newly paved road and then over to the side of the road. “Dammit!”

“What? Are we here?” he looked around the street, but there weren’t houses and the road that was newly paved stopped suddenly before it turned to dirt and gravel.

“No, we’re not here. I mean, we’re here because this is where we are, um, here,” he couldn’t believe how flustered this man made him. “Um, but not at the office I was going to show you.”

“Then why did you stop?” Evan asked.

“Why are you staring at me?” Chance asked.

“I’m–I’m sorry. I don’t mean to,” Evan said. “Just take me home.”

Chance sighed. “I’m sorry. I guess I’m paranoid or something,” he said.

  “Why?” Evan asked.

“Why are you really here? Did Washington send you here to check up on me? Check up on my duties or see how I handle myself?”

“What? No, I’ve known him since college,” Evan said. “I’m sorry. You want to really know why I was looking at you?”

  “Yes,” Chance crossed his arms.

“I think you’re really attractive,” he said. “There.” He got out of the SUV and slammed the door. He started to walk down the road in the direction of the dirt road but then he stopped when he got the edge of the pavement.

“Oh, fuckin’ hell!” Chance yelled as he got out of the vehicle. “Evan? I’m sorry.”

Evan turned around and laughed slightly. “I stormed away but I have no fucking idea where the hell I am.”

Chance walked over to him. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to be an ass. Let me take you home. I’ll call Janet later and set up a time where you can see the office.”

“Thanks,” Evan said. “Now that I’ve embarrassed myself.” They both walked back toward the SUV.

  “What?”

“I told you I was attracted to you. Hell, I almost told you I wanted to suck your cock,” he stopped. “Um, please, forget that I said that.”

“Oh, if that’s what you want,” Chance said.

Evan shook his head. “Just point me in the direction back to town, please. I just want to take a walk and get away from you.”

“Oh,” Chance looked around. “If you walk down to Hillside Road this way,” he pointed to the main road. “Then take a left on Oak Street and then a right on Bridge Street. You’ll be on our … your road.”

“Thanks,” Evan muttered as he walked down the road.

Chance watched and stared at the man as he walked at a fast pace. “I would’ve said yes,” he whispered. He got in his SUV and turned it around. He slowly drove parallel to Evan. “Please, wait,” he called out the window, but Evan ignored him. He drove past Evan and turned on Oak Street. He pulled over and waited for Evan to turn the corner.

Evan noticed Chance, standing outside the SUV. “What now? I haven’t embarrassed myself enough?” he walked over to Chance and crossed his arms.

  “Ask again,” Chance gulped.

  “Ask what?”

“What you were going to ask me,” he said. “Ask again. Please, say it. Tell me what you want.”

“I want to suck your cock, bad,” Evan growled, biting his bottom lip.

“And I want to fuck you, bad. My place or yours.”

“Mine,” Evan licked his lips lightly.

  “Get in,” Chance said.

Evan led Chance into the house and before the door was even closed Evan pulled Chance’s belt loose. Chance closed the door with his foot and pushed his pants down to the floor. He stepped out of them as he followed Evan into the living room.

Evan looked into Chance’s eyes and pulled his mouth to his. He invaded Chance’s mouth with his tongue, plunging it down his throat. He broke the embrace and looked into his eyes. Without saying a word, he instantly dropped to his knees, pulling Chance’s boxers down with one swift movement. He grabbed on to Chance’s cock with his mouth and sucked it in, hitting the back of his throat. His tongue danced around Chance’s shaft as he inhaled and exhaled the salty cock. He sucked harder and harder, as his hands wandered toward Chance’s ass. He ran his hands over Chance’s ass, gently rubbing his finger up and down his crack.

Chance looked down. “I’m gonna fucking burst,” he moaned.

Evan slowly released his suction on Chance and stood up. He looked into his eyes. “I’m a top,” he said.

“I’m a bottom, but I desperately want to feel my cock inside you,” Chance licked his lips. “But first …” he slightly pushed Evan to sit down on the sofa. He unbuttoned Evan’s jeans and smiled. “Button-fly?”

“Yup,” he said. “Zippers hurt hard ons.”

“You’re telling me,” Chance said, dropping to his knees. “I’ve had a hard on for you since I brought you home last night.”

Evan slipped his jeans off and tossed them on the floor with his foot. “Now what?” Evan licked his lips.

Chance squeezed Evan’s erection with his hand as he placed his mouth on him. He sucked slowly as he ran his tongue over the head of his cock. He sucked hard, pulling the cock into his mouth. He felt Evan swell harder and he released his mouth.

“Oh. Fuck.” He heard Evan growl, so much it was almost like a purr.

He climbed on Evan’s lap and pressed his mouth against Evan’s nipples. He sucked hard as Evan grasped his cock.

Evan pulled Chance’s head up and pulled his mouth toward him. “You sure you want top?” Evan breathed into his mouth.

Chance raised an eyebrow. “You want …”

Before he could finish, Evan reached into the drawer next to the sofa and grabbed a ream of condoms and a tube of lubrication. “On your back,” Evan commanded.

Chance kissed Evan’s mouth and did as he commanded.

Evan was so turned on by Chance’s obedience and he knew he had to not only have this man, but he had to keep him, somehow. He ripped open the condom packet with his teeth. He pulled out the condom and quickly and swiftly covered his cock with it.

Chance looked up at this man. He knew he needed this, but he couldn’t go further. Sex was one thing, but all the other stuff led to something he couldn’t ever have. Something he didn’t deserve. He never loved and felt love. He knew why. He was worthless as a man. Who the hell would want to love him, anyway? Todd said he wasn’t good enough. Todd said he was only good for sucking and patrolling, anything besides that was shit. Chance had to wipe those thoughts away. He stared at Evan’s hands as he rubbed the lubrication on his cock.

Evan squirted some lubrication on his fingers and he slowly rubbed the opening of Chance’s ass hole. He plunged one finger in and then out again. He plunged it in again, then added a second finger. He slowly loosened Chance’s muscles. Evan rested Chance’s leg on his shoulder and le
aned forward. “Someday, I’m gonna suck that asshole,” he licked his lips and then outlined Chance’s lips with his tongue. “You are so fucking hot.” With that, he pulled out his fingers and inserted his cock inside his ass. “Oh, gees, you are so tight. I love that,” he cried out as Chance moaned.

Chance kept his eyes on Evan’s cock as he pushed it in and out of his asshole.

“Eyes up to me,” Evan said. “I want to see the lust in your eyes as I fuck you.”

Chance’s eyes met Evan’s as he licked his lips. “Harder,” he whispered.

“You got it,” Evan slowed his pace but pushed himself harder into Chance’s ass. He pushed harder and harder as he wrapped his hand around Chance’s cock and jerked. “Come with me,” Evan commanded.

Chance wrapped his hand around Evan’s hand that was on his cock. “Harder,” he moaned.

Evan fucked Chance’s ass as he jerked him off, and together, they exploded with their release. Evan pulled out of Chance’s ass and pressed his mouth down on Chance’s cock. He sucked in Chance’s release and sucked until his cock stopped pulsating. He sat up and looked at Chance. “You are very sexy. I could get used to this.”

“What?” Chance stood up and scanned the floor for his pants.

  “You,” Evan said.

Chance shook his head, as he quickly got dressed. “I’m not good for anything but fucking, right?” he struggled to put on his shoes.

“That’s not what I said,” Evan said. “Chance?”

“Charles,” he grunted, as he hurried out of Evan’s house. He got in his SUV and backed out of the driveway and straight into his own driveway, across the street.

Evan watched from the window as Chance rushed into his house and slammed the door. Evan sighed. “Who hurt you, Baby?” he whispered.

Chance rushed into his kitchen and sat down at the table. He lay his head down on the table. Todd’s right. I’m only good for two things, he thought to himself. Some cop. Some chief.

Chance walked into the police station, wearing his black patrol uniform. He forced a smile on his face as he noticed Emma staring at him. “What?”

“Nothing,” she said. “Mr. Washington called for you.”

“What? He fire me?” he snickered.

“No, he just wanted to know if you were still gonna have lunch with him on Friday.”

“Oh, I have a beat to patrol. If he calls, confirm for one at the diner on Friday.”

“I will,” Emma said. “Sir, are you all right?”

“Long day, but I’ll be fine. I like working the night shift,” he said. “It’s pretty quiet. I’m gonna expand my patrol to the river.”

“Of course, I’ll let Owens and Demaris know.”

“I’m on my way out now,” he said.

  “Sir, your badge.”

“What?” he looked down. “Oh, right. I put on the wrong one.”

  “It’s not wrong,” she said.

“Yes, I have two. One for chief and one for being an officer. It’s bad enough that people recognize my squad car.”

“Well, if it didn’t have the white letters that say Chief on the side, no one would know.”

“They don’t, until I pull them over,” he laughed. “I’ll stop by my house …” he stopped. “I guess I’ll just wear this tonight. Don’t feel like going home right now.” he turned on his heels and headed out of the precinct.

Evan walked into the police station and over to the front desk. “Yes, is the Chief in?” he asked.

Emma sighed. “Um, no, he’s on patrol,” she said. “He patrols at night and is the Chief during the day.”

“Really? I mean, oh,” he said.

  “And you are?”

“Evan Manetti, new mayor,” he smiled as he extended his hand.

“Oh, nice to meet you, mayor,” Emma smiled and shook his hand. “I’m Sergeant Lawrence. Dispatch. He won’t be back unless he makes an arrest or clocks out, which is usually around midnight.”

“He works until midnight and then reports in the morning at what time?”

“Seven or eight. Depends on his mood.” She smiled. “If you ask me, he works too hard but since his divorce, he works even more.”

“Oh, he’s divorced,” Evan sighed. “That explains it.”

“Explains what? Oh, never mind,” Emma said. “I can’t say anymore. To be honest, I don’t know anymore. He keeps a lot of his personal life to himself. He’s been Chief for 10 years.”

“Well, I’ll try to catch up with him tomorrow. Oh, what is the name of the realtor, um, Janet something?”

“Janet Dawson,” she said. “Hold on.” Emma reached in a drawer and pulled out a business card. “Here’s her card.”

  “You keep her cards here?”

“Everyone who wants us to. We are usually the first stop for those new to town or looking for something or someone,” she said. “No one goes to City hall, across the street, unless they have to visit the mayor, um, you.”

“Well, I’m also a lawyer, looking for an office. When I get my cards, after I get my office, mind if I drop some off here?”

“Not at all,” she smiled. “Oh, mayor, it was nice to meet you.”

“You, too, Emma,” he eyed her nametag.

“Shall I tell the Chief you were looking for him?”

“No, that’s OK. I’ll find him.” Evan nodded and headed out of the precinct.

Chance pulled into his driveway with his squad car and he noticed Evan, sitting on his porch as he walked up the steps. “What do you want?”

“We need to talk,” Evan said.

“Nothing to say,” Chance said. “Please leave.”

“So, you let me fuck you and then you take off? Was it that terrible for you?” Evan stood up quickly.

“Um, no, it wasn’t bad at all,” Chance said. “It was really … amazing, but …”

Evan leaned in closer. “But what?” he whispered.

“I’m not good enough to do it again,” he sighed. “I’m not good enough for a man like you.”

“What?” Evan said. “Baby, you were fucking amazing. I loved feeling myself inside you. I loved just touching you. Looking into your eyes.”

“Why?” Chance asked. “Why would you want someone who is a fucking loser like me?”

“Whoa. You are not a loser. You’re a police Chief. Chance, I don’t know why you feel that way, but you’re not a loser.”

“I’m only good for two things,” Chance sighed. “Fucking and being a cop. There’s nothing else.”

“You’re wrong and I’ll prove that to you,” Evan pulled Chance’s mouth to his. “You’ll see that I want more from you. You are more than a cop. You are more than someone I want to fuck.”

“Sucking is the same thing,” Chance’s lips trembled. “Please leave me alone.”

“I’ll go for now, Chance, but I won’t give up.” Evan lightly touched Chance’s cheek and then he kissed his chin.

“Why bother?” Chance sighed as he walked into his house.

Evan shook his head as Chance closed the door. “I’ll prove it to you,” he headed off the porch and across the street to his own home.

Evan picked up his cell phone off his desk that was in his living room. He dialed the number that was from the card. “Yes, hello. I’m looking for Janet Dawson.”

  “This is Janet,” she said.

“I’m Evan Manetti,” he said. “Emma from the police station gave me your card.”

“Oh, Mister Mayor, yes, what can I do for you? Chief Endicott said that I may expect a call from you.”

“I’m looking for an office for my law firm.”

“I have two office spaces that are available. One is on Bedford Place but one also just opened up on Broad Street, right near City hall and the Fire house. It’s across the street from the police station and the clinic. It’s a pretty busy road and probably more convenient for you since, it’s the heart of the town and city hall is right there.”

  “
I’d like to look at them both. At your convenience. I don’t have to actually report to city hall until Monday. I’m still getting settled and Washington is still getting his stuff out.”

“Oh, I heard he was taking his time,” she laughed slightly. “Tomorrow at nine?”

“Sounds good. I’ll meet you at the one on Broad Street first. Somehow, I think that will be my first pick.”

  “Tomorrow, then,” she hung up.

  5

Evan walked out of the empty office toward the sidewalk and smiled at Janet. He extended his hand to hers and she shook it. “I’ll take it. It’s perfect. It’s close to City Hall.”

Janet twirled her blonde hair on her finger. “When do you want to move in?”

“The first of next month,” he said. “It needs a few renovations for me before I can see clients there. I’ll have a check issued for the purchase price by tomorrow.”

“I didn’t ask, but what type of law do you practice?” she asked.

“I’m a civil litigator,” he said. “My accounts are being transferred to the local bank as we speak. I’d like to get this done with quickly.”

“Sure, I’ll have the papers drawn up and sent to your office at City Hall,” she licked her lips in an attempt to flirt.

Evan cleared his throat and stepped back slightly. His eyes focused on Chance, who was walking into the police station, wearing just black jeans and a button down black shirt, untucked.

She noticed the line of sight of his eyes. “Oh, I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be,” he sighed. “He’s not interested.”

“Oh, I’m sure he is, but he’s been hurt … really bad.”

“I heard he was a private person,” Evan said.

“He is. I’m his brother’s ex-wife. I actually get along better with him than my ex when we were married. Chance is a good man, just keeps things bottled inside. He is a great man. He has complete confidence in himself when he’s doing his job, but it sucks when he’s just being a guy. I can’t say much more. I’ll just give you one hint of advice,” she said as they headed to their vehicles.

  “What’s that?”
